SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Red Rocks legend MyKayla Skinner announced that she will be competing on American Ninja Warrior with her husband.
After winning a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, MyKayla Skinner will now put her gymnastics experience to the test on American Ninja Warrior.
Skinner and her husband, Jonas Harmer made the announcement on their YouTube channel.
Season 14 of American Ninja Warrior will feature couples, which is how Skinner ended up on the show. American Ninja Warrior is a television show based on the Japanese television reality show “Sasuke.” Competitors from around the country attempt to complete a series of obstacle courses in various cities around the United States.
The difficulty of the obstacle course increases as the competitor advances through the show. Each competitor will need to conquer the city qualifying, city finals and four stages of Mount Midoriyama in a single season. If they do so, they will win $1 million.
To date, only three competitors have conquered Mount Midoriyama. The show first aired on December 12, 2009.
According to the YouTube clip above, Skinner’s husband applied to be a competitor on the show. After he received a spot on season 14, the producers called him back and wanted he and MyKayla to compete together in their couples challenge.
Right after the Olympics, Skinner had an opportunity to compete on the show but declined because she was retired. Now, the couple has six weeks to train and prepare for the show as they begin their quest at conquering Mount Midoriyama and win $1 million.
American Ninja Warrior airs on KSL 5 TV.
