PROVO, Utah – Count BYU women’s basketball as the latest team in Provo to get in on the success over Pac-12 foes.

The undefeated BYU women’s basketball team took down Arizona State 55-44 at the Marriott Center. It was BYU’s first game against a power conference this season. The win improves BYU’s record to 3-0 on the season.

BYU’s athletic department is experiencing a banner year against their western foes from the Pac-12. The Cougars are 4-0 against the Pac-12 in football this season, with a fifth contest against a Conference of Champions team on November 27 at USC. The Men’s Basketball team is fresh off a 32-point thrashing of No. 12 Oregon. Now it was time for Jeff Judkins and his squad that has high aspirations to jump in on the action.

In front of an energetic crowd of 3,700 fans, primarily made up of elementary-aged students on “Kid Day,” BYU’s three stars in Shaylee Gonzales, Lauren Gustin, and Paisley Harding led the way again. BYU’s “Big 3” outscored the Sun Devils by themselves, pouring in 48 points.

Super senior Paisley Harding led the way with 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field. In the first two quarters, Gonzales dealt with foul trouble and never found her groove from the offensive end, but she still dropped 13 points while also pulling down seven rebounds.

Speaking of rebounds, sophomore forward Lauren Gustin put together an impressive performance. The AP Honorable Mention All-American from a season ago put together her third consecutive double-double outing of the season with 10 points and 16 rebounds.

BYU’s defense was stifling against ASU, who was picked in the preseason to finish eighth in the loaded Pac-12. The Cougars held the Sun Devils to 30% shooting from the field and 13% from three.
