Boise State Capitalizes On BYU Turnovers, No. 10 Cougars Trail For First Time In 2021

PROVO, Utah – The Boise State Broncos took advantage of a pair of BYU turnovers and the Cougars trailed on the scoreboard for the first time this season.
The No. 10 Cougars hosted the Broncos at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah on Saturday, October 9.
Before trailing against Boise State, BYU was one of four FBS programs not to trail at any point this season. No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Georgia, and No. 9 Michigan were the only other programs.

BYU opened the game on offense and quickly jumped out to a 10-0 lead.
With 7:59 remaining in the first half, BYU running back Tyler Allgeier fumbled the ball after the Broncos put it out on run. Boise State’s Scott Matlock recovered the pigskin.
It was BYU’s first lost fumble of the season and third turnover of 2021.
Boise State capitalized on the mistake by BYU and scored a touchdown four plays later.

After the touchdown, BYU running back Lopini Katoa coughed up the football on the kick return.

Five plays later, the Broncos punched the ball into the end zone for a go-ahead score with 3:34 left in the second quarter.
Boise State took a 17-10 lead after scoring 17 unanswered points, including 14 points off turnovers in the second quarter.
