Dax Milne Makes 53-Man Roster For Washington Football Team

SALT LAKE CITY – The football career of Dax Milne might be worthy of a movie one day. From overlooked high school player at Bingham to walk-on at BYU to one of the nation’s top receivers in college football to NFL draft pick and now a member of a 53-man roster in the league.

Finally, some good roster news. Source confirms TE Sammis Reyes and CB Troy Apke are on the 53, as @john_keim reported, as is rookie WR Dax Milne

Dax Milne made the 53-man roster for the Washington Football Team on Tuesday. After reports surfaced that WFT was cutting former Liberty standout (BYU faced in 2019) Antonio Gandy-Golden, it opened the door for Milne to make the team.

At 6-foot, 190-pounds, Milne has garnered a lot of buzz during Washington’s training camp for his crisp route running and ability to catch everything thrown his way.

During the three WFT games in the preseason, Milne recorded five receptions for 52 yards. He also had one punt return for 19 yards.

Milne is the first former BYU receiver to make an NFL roster since Austin Collie was last in the league in 2013.

Dax Milne put together a memorable run at BYU

In three years at BYU, Milne finished with 1,657 career receiving yards. Good for 24th all-time in program history. During his junior campaign, he and childhood friend Zach Wilson formed one of the best tandems in the nation a season ago.

Milne had 75 catches for 1,255 yards and nine touchdowns during BYU’s memorable 11-1 season in 2020. The impressive season made him a finalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, an award given to a player who began their collegiate career as a walk-on.

Out of high school, BYU Passing Game Coordinator Fesi Sitake was a big believer in Milne. Once Sitake was named wide receiver coach for the Cougars in 2018, he immediately recruited Milne as a preferred walk-on. The rest is history.

Milne was the penultimate pick in the 2021 NFL draft, being selected by the Washington Football Team in the 7th round. Proving that where you get selected doesn’t matter. It’s about the fit and putting in the work.
