New BYU Basketball Court Installed At Marriott Center

PROVO, Utah – On Friday, the BYU basketball team was back at the Marriott Center for summer practice.

It was the first time the team was in the Marriott Center in months. The reason for the long delay was due to a new court being installed.

Along with the Marriott Center floor, the court at the Marriott Center Annex was also renovated.

While the Marriott Center and Annex were getting new courts installed, Mark Pope’s program was practicing at the old Provo High gym, which is now the property of Brigham Young University and part of campus.

The new court at the Marriott Center has a similar design to the previous one, but slight changes.

New BYU Basketball court at the Marriott Center

There’s a lighter shade of wood and the baseline has the updated Brigham Young script font. Also, the shade of blue is a little bit lighter and closer to royal blue than the previous court design.

This is the eighth different court design at the Marriott Center since the building opened in 1971. In addition, this season marks the 50th anniversary of when the historic venue first opened.

Another change from last year’s design is one three-point line. Women’s college basketball moved back their three-point line to the same distance as the men at 22 feet, 1 3/4 inches.

Two years ago, the BYU Store put murals on their ceiling showcasing the history of old BYU basketball courts at the Marriott Center. Now they have another one to add to the history.
