Eddy Alvarez Scores, Helps USA Baseball Come Back From Early Deficit Against South Korea

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Salt Lake Community College standout Eddy Alvarez scored a run and helped the United States get a comeback victory against South Korea.
Team USA played the Republic of Korea during the opening round of the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday, July 31.
Alvarez helped the United States capture a 4-2 win.

With the USA trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Alvarez was hit by a pitch and advanced to first base.
Later in the inning, Team USA’s Triston Casas hit a two-run home run that sent Alvarez around the bags and across home plate.
Casas’ home run gave the USA a 2-1 lead.

The runs were the first by the United States, who never looked back for the rest of the contest.
Later in the game, Nick Allen hit a solo home run to extend Team USA’s lead.

Alvarez finished the game 1/3 in at-bats. He scored one run and struck out twice.
Team USA finished with six hits while South Korea had five hits.
USA pitcher Nick Martinez went five innings and allowed four hits, one run, zero walks, and had nine strikeouts.

With the victory, Team USA won Group B and advanced in the Games.
Alvarez and the USA’s next game is against Japan on Monday, August 2 at 4 a.m. (MDT).
