SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former SLCC star and Team USA baseball player Eddy Alvarez had an emotional reaction when he learned he would be a flag bearer for the United States.

Eddy Alvarez and WNBA star Sue Bird carried the United States flag during the Opening Ceremonies of the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games. When Alvarez found out about the honor, he had an emotional reaction.

“It means everything to me,” Alvarez said. “I owe so much to my parents, my family, came over to this country. To be able to lead Team USA is an absolute honor. A lot of sacrifice I have had to make in this life, in my athletic career so I am just absolutely, incredibly honored. What a privilege.”
