SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah quarterback Drew Lisk gave high praise to Utes WR Devaughn Vele following his performance in the spring game.
Devaughn Vele was one of the standouts from the Utah spring football game and Drew Lisk took notice of his play on the field.
Lisk joined the Crimson Corner podcast to recap the spring game and look ahead to the 2021 season.
“Yeah, he looked good,” Lisk told KSL Sports. “He’s probably one of those guys in that room, in my years there, he might have the best flat out ball skills in the room. Just talented, can go up and get it, he can jump like crazy, he’s already tall. His ball skills are great. I think the one thing that you want to see from him is just that consistency, that reliability and being in the right place all the time and being able to bring down every ball that you should. It looks like he made strides in the spring, so that’s good to see. Because he’s a playmaker for sure. If they can get production from him, that’d be huge. Because he’s got the potential.”
Vele finished with four receptions for 66 yards and one touchdown in the spring game.

Drew Lisk Thought Charlie Brewer Was Impressive
Another player that had a tremendous spring camp that resulted in a fantastic spring game performance was Baylor transfer quarterback Charlie Brewer. He completed all 15 of his pass attempts for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
“I thought he looked like a guy who’s started for three or four years, as you would expect,” Lisk stated. “It’s good to see certainly the no hit factor. There’s a couple plays here and there where someone comes up the middle and having that comfort and knowing you’re not going to get hit changes things a little bit. But, he’s a guy that’s played a lot and it looks like that. So I think one of the biggest things when you talk about a quarterback, you can trust the guy to drop back and complete a pass more times than not, that’s going for positive yards. So just being efficient 15-15 doesn’t get any better than that. He was impressive.”
Lisk believes that it will be a really good quarterback battle in the fall with Brewer and Cam Rising.
