SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Charlie Brewer was outstanding for Utah football in their annual red-black spring game on Saturday with the red team picking up a 21-0 win.

Baylor transfer quarterback Charlie Brewer had a tremendous Utah debut for the red team, completing all 15 of his pass attempts for 151 yards and two touchdowns. He played the first half of the spring game.

The first touchdown of the afternoon came in the second quarter when Charlie Brewer found Solomon Enis in the end zone to put the red team up 7-0.

Late in the first half, Brewer threw his second touchdown of the day, finding Devaughn Vele in the end zone and the red team went up 14-0 with 31 seconds left until halftime.

Although only one touchdown was scored in the second half, plenty of plays were made. Texas transfer quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson played the second half for the red team and completed three of his eight pass attempts for 28 yards, while racking up 31 yards on nine carries on the ground.

LSU transfer Chris Curry led the red team in rushing with 6 carries for 44 yards. Vele finished with four receptions for 66 yards and one touchdown. Solomon Enis added four catches for 44 yards and one TD. Britain Covey was the third red team receiver with four catches to go with his 29 receiving yards.

Six players on the red team caught one pass. For the black team, Peter Costelli got the start and went three of eight passing for 23 yards. Oklahoma transfer T.J. Pledger had six carries for 31 yards on the ground.

Faysal Aden ran in the last touchdown of the game from two yards out to make it 21-0 with 17 seconds left.

No turnovers were made. Although, Costelli threw an interception but it was called back due to a penalty on the defense. The red team had six sacks, one each from Xavier Carlton, Jonny Fanaika, Chris Wilson and Sione Tuha. Shuhei Mitsumoto had 1.5 sacks, while Simote Pepa had half of a sack.

For the black team, Karene Reid, Tyler Wegis and Elijah Shelton had one sack apiece.

The Utes will now be off until June 1 when they start summer workouts. Fall camp will start either the end of July or the first week of August and the season opener will be on Thursday, September 2 when they host Weber State.
