Utah State Basketball Legend Shaler Halimon Passes Away At Age 76

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah State Athletics announced that Aggies men’s basketball legend Shaler Halimon passed away at the age of 76.

USU announced Halimon’s passing on Tuesday, April 20.

Halimon was elected to Utah State’s Hall of Fame in 2010.

The former college basketball standout played for the Aggies from 1967-68. During his two season with Utah State, Halimon scored 1,284 points. He is the Aggies’ 20th all-time leading scorer.

Halimon was named a Helms Athletic Foundation All-American during both his junior and senior seasons.

He averaged 25.2 points per game during his USU career, which ranks second all-time in school history behind Wayne Estes.

After his Utah State career, Halimon was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 14th overall pick during the first round of the 1968 NBA Draft.

During his NBA career, Halimon also played for the Chicago Bulls, Portland Trail Blazers, and Atlanta Hawks. He finished his career with the ABA’s Dallas Chaparrals.

As a pro, Halimon averaged 6.7 points per game in the NBA and 6.2 points per game in the ABA.
