Joe Ingles’ Career Night Not Enough In Jazz Loss To Wizards

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Joe Ingles had a career-high 34 points but it wasn’t enough as the Utah Jazz lost to the Washington Wizards 131-122 on Thursday night.

Joe Ingles was tremendous for the Jazz despite the loss to the Wizards. He scored nine points in the first quarter, eight in the second, five in the third before going off for 12 points in the fourth. Ingles shot 12-of-17 from the field and franchise record 8-for-10 from the three-point line. Donovan Mitchell added 42 points. Rudy Gobert posted a double double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

For Washington, Bradley Beal had 43 points, including 30 in the second half. Russell Westbrook had a triple double with 35 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists.

Jazz Trail Big In First Half Against Wizards Due To Turnovers, Defense

The Jazz struggled throughout the first half from the jump. Washington executed their game plan and it worked. They started the game going inside, scoring 16 points in the paint of their 31 first quarter points. Utah shot just 38 percent from the field and 4-of-13 from the three-point line in the first quarter. The Wizards had a 31-20 lead at the end of one with 13 points coming from Russell Westbrook.

In the second quarter, Westbrook had a strong period with 9 points. Bradley Beal also had 9 in the second quarter. Washington attempted just seven threes in the quarter and made three of them. They shot 50 percent from the floor. The Jazz improved their three-point shooting, going 4-of-9 from the field and 47 percent from the field. Joe Ingles hit two triples and Mitchell added 7 points in the quarter. Washington took a 64-46 lead to the halftime break.

Utah’s Second Half Runs Come Up Short Against Washington

Joe Ingles and Donovan Mitchell kept the Jazz within striking distance in the third quarter. Mitchell had 18 points in the third with under four minutes left and the Jazz were down by 11. Washington extended the lead back to 18 and took a 100-82 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Jazz made one more run midway through the fourth quarter and was within 10 points with five minutes left. Then the Jazz pulled within seven points before the Wizards extended their lead to 12 points with just under four to play.

The Jazz dropped their record to 29-11 on the season. They will have a short turnaround as they will face the Toronto Raptors on Friday, March 19 in Tampa, Florida. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. MT and will be televised on AT&T SportsNet.
