Rivers finished the previous matchup against the Jazz, making his last five shots in the Knicks win on Wednesday, January 6 in New York. In the first half of the rematch on Tuesday night, Rivers made his first 10 shots including five three-pointers for 25 points in 12 minutes.

Rivers was one of three Knicks to score in double figures in the first half. R.J. Barrett and Julius Randle each had 11 points. The Jazz improved their record to 13-4 on the season and sit in the No. 2 spot in the Western Conference standings after the Los Angeles Clippers had their winning streak snapped.
