Southern Utah’s Nine-Game Winning Streak Snapped In Loss To Eastern Washington

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah men’s basketball saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end with a loss to the Eastern Washington Eagles.
The Eagles hosted the T-Birds at Reese Court in Cheney, Washington on Thursday, January 14.
SUU and EWU played neck-and-neck for the first three-quarters of action before the Eagles began to pull ahead during the final 10 minutes of the contest.
Eastern Washington won the game, 75-63.

It was Southern Utah’s first loss since the season-opener on November 25.
Eagles forward Tanner Groves was the primary head for the Thunderbirds. Groves led Eastern Washington with 25 points and seven rebounds. The Eagles forward shot 7-15 from the field, including 2-3 from beyond the arc.

Overall, the Eagles shot 40.0 percent from the field and 27.3 percent on three-pointers.
The Thunderbirds ended the game shooting 34.3 percent overall and only 20.6 from downtown.

SUU had four players score in double figures.
Maizen Fausett led the T-Birds with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

With the loss, SUU fell to 9-2 on the season and 4-1 in Big Sky games.

Southern Utah’s next game is the second contest of a back-to-back with Eastern Washington. The Eagles will host the Thunderbirds once again on Saturday, January 16 at 1:05 p.m. (MDT).
