NBA Reports One New Positive COVID-19 Test

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The NBA had only one new player test positive for COVID-19 in the latest round of screenings. According to the league and the NBA Players Association, 549 tests were administered.
The mark is a promising sign for the NBA as it includes the first several nights of preseason action for the league’s 30 teams.
The NBA has seen increased success from its testing since players returned to training camp in November. The first round of screenings yielded 48 positive tests. The second round found just eight new positive results, and that number has now dropped to one.

“Anyone who has returned a confirmed positive test is isolated until they are cleared for leaving isolation under the rules established by the NBA and the Players Association in accordance with CDC guidance,” the league’s release said.
The NBA has been diligent about quarantining players. Utah Jazz guard Mike Conley was forced to quarantine until he could return seven negative test results after coming in close contact with someone who had the virus.
The preseason runs through Saturday, with the regular season beginning on December 22.
