SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Emmanuel Duron, a Texas high school football player, was escorted off the field by police after charging onto the field and knocking over a referee, according to Forbes.
The senior at Edinburg High School had been ejected from the game after committing back-to-back penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Duron is the team’s leading tackler, according to Forbes, and this game was a must-win situation for the Edinburg team. The unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were called when Duron was flagged for shoving an offensive lineman and trying to tackle the opposing quarterback after the play was over.

According to a local newspaper, the referee, Fred Garcia, and the player exchanged words before he was ejected. Duron then charged Garcia, knocking him to the ground. According to Forbes, Garcia was reportedly taken to an ambulance and evaluated for a shoulder injury and concussion-like symptoms.
Duron was not handcuffed but he was escorted off the premises by police and did not return.
Awful act here, but I can’t stop thinking about big ol’ 72. That’s like any nightmare where you’re trying to avert some tragedy and you just can’t get there. “Noooooo, doooonnnn’tttt doooo iiiiit!” Guessing this kid’s been a pain in his butt a few times before. pic.twitter.com/F66XYXM9ql

When asked about the situation, the head coach of the team JJ Lejia said,” “I can’t release any information on that and I apologize for that. I hope you understand. I want this (moment) to be about our program and all the other kids we had on the field tonight.”
The police department has no comment on the matter.

Garcia has been a referee for the Texas Association of Sports Officials for 27 years. He is 58-years-old.
This is not the first time Duron has been in hot water, according to the same report, he was suspended from the soccer season after a “similar incident.”
UPDATE: The player involved now faces an assault charge.
