SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Emmanuel Duron, the Texas high school football player who was escorted off the field by police after charging onto the field and knocking over a referee now faces an assault charge, according to ESPN.
His team, the Edinburg High School Bobcats, were playing in a must-win game when the accused assault took place. They won the game, but now are now removed from the playoffs.
Duron had been ejected from the game after committing back-to-back penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct when he charged 58-year-old Fred Garcia knocking him to the ground. According to a local newspaper, Garcia was evaluated for a shoulder injury and concussion-like symptoms.

Duron is the team’s leading tackler, according to Forbes. The unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were called when Duron was flagged for shoving an offensive lineman and trying to tackle the opposing quarterback after the play was over.
ESPN reports that Duran has been charged with a class A assault and is being held at the county jail on a $10,000 bond.
When asked about the situation, the head coach of the team JJ Lejia said,” “I can’t release any information on that and I apologize for that. I hope you understand. I want this (moment) to be about our program and all the other kids we had on the field tonight.”
