SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah cornerback Bronson Boyd has reportedly entered his name in the transfer portal.

It was first reported by Steve Bartle of UteZone and It’s Utah’s World podcast. KSL Sports has confirmed the report.

Boyd becomes the third Utah player to enter the NCAA transfer portal since the start of fall camp in early October. The other two that entered the portal is wide receiver Jaylen Dixon and running back T.J. Green.

Boyd was originally a wide receiver who joined the Utah program as a transfer from Texas Tech in 2017. After sitting out the 2017 season, Boyd played in nine games with one start at wide receiver, hauling in two catches for 40 yards.

Last season, Boyd made the switch to cornerback, playing in all 14 games primarily on special teams. He made appearances on defense in three games.

This season, Boyd was in a battle with Clark Phillips III for the right cornerback spot. Utah released their depth chart on Monday and Boyd was listed as Phillips’ backup.

The reported departure of Boyd leaves a void to a very young cornerback group.

According to head coach Kyle Whittingham, Dixon wasn’t able to be with the team for months due to personal reasons, then decided to transfer to another school. Green entered the portal after Utah’s first scrimmage of fall camp when he make the running back rotation. Whittingham said they were going to use four running backs but Green wasn’t among them. The four that were in the mix included Devin Brumfield, Jordan Wilmore, Ty Jordan and Micah Bernard.
