NBPA Appoints Utah Jazz G Donovan Mitchell To NBA’s New Social Justice Coalition

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The National Basketball Players Association has appointed Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell to the NBA’s new Social Justice Coalition.

NBPA executive director Michele Roberts spoke with Shams Charania of The Athletic and told him who was appointed to the Social Justice Coalition.
Donovan Mitchell as well as Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony and Milwaukee Bucks guard Sterling Brown will serve on the committee. The NBA and NBPA created committees for the NBA Foundation that is formed alongside team governors and coaches when the players agreed to continue the season in late August amid the Jacob Blake shooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The NBA Foundation is another piece that was put in place after the league stopped play in August. Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes and Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris will serve as the player reps on the NBA Foundation.
Mitchell has been one of many players using his voice and platform to create change among social justice issues. He wore a bullet proof vest prior to their game in the bubble with the New Orleans Pelicans. Mitchell has spoken out about justice for Breonna Taylor who was killed by police in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Jazz star has also donated money to an education fund for the children of Jacob Blake.
