No. 5 Pleasant Grove Sneaks Past No. 13 Lehi In Overtime Thriller

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The No. 5 ranked Pleasant Grove Vikings needed overtime but was able to get past No. 13 Lehi, 35-29.

Lehi jumped out to a 9-0 lead with a field goal and a blocked kick returned for a touchdown by Izak Harward. In the second quarter, Pleasant Grove rattled off three straight touchdowns with runs by Spencer Tauteoli along with Rex and Porter Connors to take a 21-9 lead to the halftime break.

The Pioneers answered with three unanswered touchdowns with a two-yard TD run by Chandler Jenkins, a 39-yard touchdown catch by Isaac Dayley from Isaiah Tauai and Tauai catching a TD pass from Creyton Cooper. That tied the game 29-21 lead with 2:54 left in the fourth quarter. Sam Leavitt threw a 40-yard TD pass to Darrius Clemons with 27 seconds left in regulation. They made the two-point conversion to tie the game at 29.

In overtime Tauteoli ran in a one-yard touchdown to give the Vikings the win.

Here is all of the results in the 6A classification from the fifth week of the high school football season.

Region 1

Fremont 46 at Clearfield 28

Clearfield scored first but Fremont answered with 17 unanswered points. The Falcons found the end zone late in the first half. The Silver Wolves scored 21 straight points in the third quarter before Clearfield scored. Each team exchanged touchdowns from that point. Fremont had two touchdown passes from Cannon Kofford, finding Jacob Palmer and Kyler Kotter. Kotter ran in a TD as well while Carter Bills and Zack Weber each ran in a score. For Clearfield, Shaydn Stoker threw two TD’s and Bransen Simper had one score through the air. Nixon Dayley caught two touchdowns with Joshua Qualls hauling in one. Kai Wirth added a rushing touchdown.

Layton 7 at No. 6 Davis 40

The Darts scored 30 points in the first quarter and 10 points in the second quarter before Layton found the end zone in the third quarter. Chance Trujillo connected with David Spjut on both of his touchdown passes. Spencer Ferguson ran in two touchdowns, while Caden Blackner added one on the ground. For Layton, Garrett Gifford threw one touchdown to Sammie Van Horne.

Northridge 0 at Weber 48

Weber was fairly balanced in scoring throughout the game. They scored 14 points in the first, 17 in the second, 10 in the third and 7 in the fourth to pick up the shutout win. Jake Lindsay threw three touchdowns, two to Cole Brotherhous and one to Cannon DeVries. Jama Kanyare added a rushing score. DeVries also ran in a punt return for a touchdown and Hagen Champneys recovered a fumble in the end zone.

No. 10 Roy 30 at Syracuse 15

Syracuse started the game with a 5-0 lead after a safety and a field goal. Roy then rattled off 13 straight points. The Titans added 10 points in the third and fourth quarters before the Royals put the game away in the fourth. Parker Kingston threw one touchdown pass to Colby Dickson. The Roy quarterback also ran in a TD. Cade Harris and Izzy Gordon also scored on the ground.

Region 2

Cyprus 32 at Taylorsville 30

It was a complete comeback for the Pirates to secure their first win of the season. Taylorsville scored a field goal midway through the first. Cyprus answered with a touchdown in the second quarter. The Warriors added two touchdowns to the scoreboard before Cyprus nailed a field goal before the half, Taylorsville had a 17-10 lead at the break. The Pirates scored a touchdown early in the fourth before Taylorsville responded with a TD of their own. The Pirates scored three unanswered touchdowns to pick up the win. Rush Monsen threw a touchdown to LJ Cohee while Monsen and Gabriel Williams each ran in a touchdown for Cyprus. For Taylorsville, Humani Wolfgramm threw two touchdowns while Kilifi Taufalele had a passing TD, finding Austin Byrd, Dalton Jamison and Tristan Rosenau.

Granger 8 at Hunter 28

Hunter scored one touchdown in each quarter before Granger scored their only TD of the game. Josh Harding connected with Nathan Suaste twice in the end zone. Koni Tahi added a rushing TD. Justice Brusatto ran back an interception 65-yards for a touchdown. Tevita Finau scored the Lancers’ only touchdown.

West 38 at West Jordan 28

The Panthers jumped out to a 31-7 lead in the first half. The Jaguars scored two unanswered TD’s in the third quarter before each team added one touchdown in the fourth quarter. Carson Lopati threw two touchdown passes to Clarence Bird Butler and Sesi Vailahi. Bird Butler also ran in two touchdowns on the ground. West Jordan picked up three total touchdowns from Boston Farmer, two rushing and one passing, connecting with Carter Baldwin. Inoke Vi added a rushing score.

Non-Region

Alta 6 at No. 1 Corner Canyon 56

Corner Canyon scored first before Alta picked up their only touchdown on a 12-yard run by Samuel Black. The Chargers went on to score 49 unanswered points. Jaxson Dart had 7 total touchdowns, 4 passing and 3 rushing. All of his four TD’s through the air were to different receivers. Cody Hagen, Jett Meine, Noah Kjar and Talmage Handley each hauled in a touchdown. Harrison Taggart added a 25-yard pick-six.

No. 12 Bingham 24 at No. 16 Westlake 3

A big road win for the Miners. They jumped out to a 17-3 lead in the first half. Bingham added a touchdown in the third quarter. Semisi Vi and Cael Wightman each ran in a touchdown while Isaiah Gasker hauled in a pick-six for Bingham.

Copper Hills 13 at Juan Diego 31

A 17-0 lead in the first half was how Juan Diego started the game. The Soaring Eagles scored two touchdowns in the second half while the Grizzlies scored all 13 of their points in the second half. Brady Wardle threw a touchdown pass to Zeth Hein, along with a rushing TD from Rylan Reed for Copper Hills. For Juan Diego, Tyler Easter connected with Maui Roopinia. Easter along with Dallas Larson and Jeremy Ortega each ran in a rushing touchdown.

No. 19 Herriman 6 at No. 2 American Fork 56

American Fork scored all of their 56 points before Herriman scored their only touchdown of the night. After throwing nine touchdown passes last week, Maddux Madsen threw 7 touchdowns in their win over Herriman. He connected with Fisher Ingersoll three times, Garrison Grimes twice and once each to Noah Moeaki and Tyler Tilton. Ryan Evans added a rushing TD. Michael Falatea hauled in the Mustangs only touchdown.

Jordan 7 at No. 3 Skyridge 68

The Falcons scored 55 points in the first half, putting up 27 points in the first quarter and 28 in the second. McCae Hillstead threw six touchdowns and ran in two more. He found James Palmer four times, along with one TD pass to each Kaden Loftin, Mitch Adamson and Teagan Calton. Cam McClellan and also threw a TD pass. For Jordan, Isaac Kosorok’s lone touchdown was thrown to Broc Bennett.

No. 8 Kearns 44 at Riverton 19

The game was tied at 7 in the first half before Kearns rattled off 38 straight points. Riverton scored two touchdowns late in the fourth. For Kearns, Iosefa Toia’ivao threw two touchdowns to Jeff Bassa and Naki Leha. Leha also had 3 rushing touchdowns. Charles Henderson ran back a 102-yard pick-six. For Riverton, Colby Barton threw three TD’s to Andrew Mangum, Garrick Gibbons and Jaxon Bennett.

No. 9 Orem 7 at No. 4 Lone Peak 24

The Knights had a 21-7 lead at the halftime break. They added a field goal in the second half while holding the Tigers scoreless. Luke Romney threw two touchdowns, connecting with Crew McChesney and Weston Covey while Luke Durfey had a rushing TD. Lance Reynold’s found Aisake Toiaivao for Orem’s only touchdown.
