SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Big Sky Conference voted for its schools to not play college football in 2020, according to HERO Sports’ Brian McLaughlin.

“Big Sky Conference is OUT, one source is telling me. More than two-third schools voted “no” today to playing this fall, source said,” McLaughlin tweeted on Thursday, August 6.

The report specifically stated that the teams didn’t want to play this fall but the language of cancelation the season all together was never posed. It’ll be interesting to watch if the conference decides to postpone the season to spring when it officially announces the decision.

According to The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach, no decision has been finalized and the presidents of Big Sky schools will meet at 4 p.m. (MDT).

Source tells @TheAthleticCFB that no Big Sky vote has happened yet. Presidents meet at 4pm MT. No decision made yet,” Auerbach tweeted.

The move to not play football in 2020 would impact multiple programs in the state of Utah including the Big Sky’s Weber State and Southern Utah.

Both schools have already had their upcoming football schedules altered due to decisions made by other conferences and schools because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Weber State’s opener against the Mountain West’s Wyoming has been postponed, according to ESPN.

Southern Utah’s second game of its original slate of games featured a matchup with Utah State and has also been postponed from the upcoming schedule.

KSL Sports reached out to Weber State and Southern Utah and neither school has heard any official word from the conference or comment on the situation.
