SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Kansas City Chiefs rookie wide receiver Aleva Hifo has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

The former BYU standout who completed his four-year career with the Cougars last fall appeared on the NFL’s “Reserve/COVID-19” transaction list and according to The Kansas City Star Hifo is asymptomatic.

Hifo is one of only six NFL players who has appeared on the new COVID-19 reserve list since camps began opening up last week around the league. Each player that appears on the list doesn’t constitute a positive COVID-19 case. Players who have come in contact with an individual that has tested positive for COVID-19 will also be placed on the reserve list.

Aleva Hifo prepares for his rookie season with Chiefs

Hifo reported to Chiefs Training Camp with the rest of the Kansas City rookies last week. An undrafted free agent this past April, Hifo is looking to make the defending Super Bowl Champions 53-man roster in his first professional season despite having zero rookie minicamps or OTA’s in the off-season.

The Reserve/COVID-19 is new to this season amid the global pandemic and is unlimited in size. If an NFL player tests positive for COVID-19 during the season, the individual is replaced by a member of the team’s practice squad until the positive-test player is cleared to return to action.

In four years at BYU, Hifo was used as a versatile athlete who did a variety of things in the Cougars offense. Hifo racked up 1,336 receiving yards in his career and as a senior took on punt return duties averaging 15.8 yards per return.
