Donovan Mitchell Connects With Rudy Gobert For Multiple Alley-Oops Against Miami Heat

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell and center Rudy Gobert connected on multiple alley-oop dunks in Utah’s scrimmage against the Miami Heat.

The Jazz faced the Heat in the second of Utah’s three scrimmages prior to the restart of the 2019-20 season at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

The two NBA All-Stars connected on multiple lob passes that resulted in dunks during game against the Heat.

Mitchell’s first assist to Gobert came during the opening minutes of the contest. He lobbed the ball over a Miami defender and into Gobert’s hands high above the rim. Gobert’s dunk resulted in his second basket of the game and tied the Jazz and Heat at 4-4 with 9:38 left in the first quarter.

The second connection came during the second quarter of action. Mitchell drove towards the basket and found a rolling Gobert above the cylinder. The Jazz center packed the ball through the net for his 16th and 17th points of the game. It was Mitchell’s third dish of the contest. Gobert’s jam gave Utah a 45-40 lead with 3:35 left to play before halftime.

Gobert went into the locker room at the break with a game-high 17 points. He scored those points on 7-8 shooting. Gobert also recorded 6 rebounds and a block in 16 minutes on the court.

Mitchell had 3 points on 1-8 field goals at halftime. Despite his shooting, Mitchell contributed with 2 rebounds and 3 assists in 18 minutes of action.

Utah and Miami were tied 47-47 at the end of the second quarter.

Early in the third quarter, Mitchell connected with his teammate and fellow All-Star once again.

Mitchell’s third alley-oop to Gobert gave Utah a 59-54 advantage with 8:30 left in the third. The dunk gave Gobert 21 points and Mitchell 4 assists for the game.

Utah’s third quarter included a 19-4 run against Miami.

Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert’s relationship

In recent months, Mitchell and Gobert’s relationship has been one of the most discussed storylines surrounding the Jazz.

On March 11, Gobert became the first NBA player to test positive for the coronavirus disease, COVID-19. The following day, Mitchell also tested positive for the virus.

Prior to his positive test, Gobert had treated the virus with some lack of seriousness, which frustrated Mitchell.

At one point, a report surfaced that the relationship between the two didn’t “appear salvageable.”

Meetings between the players and Jazz coaches and management occurred during the NBA’s hiatus amid the coronavirus pandemic. Both players have said they are ready to move on and play basketball.

Utah’s scrimmage is against Miami will broadcast on tape delay on Saturday, July 25 at 7 p.m. (MDT) on AT&T SportsNet.
