SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah Utes and current Los Angeles Rams safety Terrell Burgess said that he doesn’t have a preference in where he plays on the field as much as he likes “being in a position to make plays” for his team.

The former Utah defensive back and Rams rookie recently joined J.B. Long on an episode of the Rams Revealed podcast to talk about his positional versatility.

“I’d say I’m a football player. I wouldn’t say that I’m best at any position but I do love to play in the box. I love to play in the box and being able to read lineman but I also like just being in a position to make plays,” Burgess said. “I don’t care where it is. I just want to play and help contribute.”

During his time in college, Burgess’ versatility was utilized by Utah coaches Kyle Whittingham and Morgan Scalley. The former Utah defensive back was featured at multiple safety and linebacker positions as well as on special teams.

The Rams liked Burgess’ versatility and selected him with the 104th overall pick during the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He is one of seven safeties currently on the Rams’ roster. According to ourlads.com, Burgess is slotted to backup Rams strong safety Taylor Rapp.

Rapp will enter his second NFL season in 2020. He was drafted by the Rams during the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Rapp has three years remaining on his contract.

At free safety, John Johnson is entering the final year of his contract. The Rams lost their starting free safety last season in former Ute Eric Weddle. After 13 seasons in the NFL, Weddle retired following the 2019 season.

In addition to Burgess, the Rams drafted another safety during the 2020 NFL Draft. Los Angeles picked former Ohio State safety Jordan Fuller with the 199th overall selection.

The Rams picked Burgess with the 104th overall pick during the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Burgess joined a Los Angeles team that finished the 2019 season with a 9-7 record and barely missed the postseason.
