How Former Utah CB Javelin Guidry Will Fit In With New York Jets

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah cornerback Javelin Guidry has a good chance of sticking with the New York Jets entering the 2020 NFL season.

Guidry signed with the Jets as a priority free agent.

The Jets play a 3-4 defensive scheme with three defensive linemen but use nickelbacks on occasion. According to Ourlads.com, Guidry is currently listed as the third string nickelback behind Brian Poole and Carter Shyheim.

Cornerbacks/Nickels On Roster

Brian Poole signed a one-year deal with the Jets this past off-season after spending the last three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.

Shyheim Carter signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent this off-season after playing college football at Alabama. He signed a three-year deal with the Jets.

The Jets selected one cornerback in the 2020 NFL Draft when they picked Virginia’s Bryce Hall in the fifth round.

Contract Details

According to Spotrac.com, Guidry agreed to a three-year deal worth $2,285,000. His base salary this season will be $610,000 and will that amount of the Jets’ cap this season.

Guidry agreed to a contract with the Jets shortly after the NFL Draft.

Prediction

It doesn’t look promising for Guidry when you look at the projected depth chart but it is just that, a projected depth chart. Guidry is one of the fastest players in the NFL after posting the second fastest 40-yard dash time at the NFL Scouting Combine.

It will be a process for Guidry to work his way up the depth chart and show the Jets his ability to be a good nickelback in the NFL. I think he will make the Jets’ 53-man roster after training camp and will be a solid contributor on special teams in the 2020 NFL season.
