SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah safety Terrell Burgess has a chance to contribute as a rookie for the Los Angeles Rams.

Burgess was taken by the Rams in the third round with the 104th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The former Ute is among seven safeties that are currently on the Rams’ roster. According to ourlads.com, Burgess is the backup strong safety behind Taylor Rapp.

He will wear No. 26 for the Rams.

Other Safeties On Roster

Rapp just finished his rookie season in the NFL in 2019 after being taken in the second round. He has three years remaining on his contract.

At free safety, John Johnson is entering the final year of his contract. The Rams lost their starting free safety last season in former Ute Eric Weddle who retired after 13 seasons in the NFL.

The Rams took one more safety after Burgess in the NFL Draft. They selected former Ohio State safety Jordan Fuller in the sixth round, 199th overall.

Contract Details

Burgess has not signed a contract with the Rams yet. That will happen in the coming weeks. According to Spotrac.com, Burgess is projected to make $4,499,404 over the course of his rookie contract. His signing bonus is projected to be worth $832,295 and using an estimated $818,074 of the Rams’ cap.

The former Ute can negotiate certain portions of his contract but some of it is set in stone because of the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement.

Prediction

Burgess has a chance to step in for the Rams and contribute right away at safety. The organization is going through a youth movement in their secondary which means the starting job is up in the air.

The former Ute can do what he had to do in college which is work his way to the starting position. Burgess has the ability with his athleticism, toughness and intelligence to be a member of the Rams for a long time.
