NEW ORLEANS, La. – New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said that former BYU quarterback Taysom Hill will be Drew Brees’ primary backup in 2020.
Payton confirmed Hill’s move up the Saints’ depth chart on Wednesday, March 25.
The former BYU QB spent the 2019 season as a versatile offensive weapon for New Orleans but was QB3 on the team’s depth chart.
“He’s earned that opportunity,” Payton said of Hill’s move to QB2.
Sean Payton said Taysom Hill is going to be the Saints’ No. 2 QB going into the 2020 season. Payton: “He’s earned that opportunity.”

The Saints re-signed Brees, their franchise QB and future hall of famer, to a new deal earlier this offseason. New Orleans also placed a first-round tender on Hill and allowed QB2 Teddy Bridgewater to sign a deal with divisional rival Carolina.
By placing a first-round tender on Hill, the Saints had the chance to match any offer sheet Hill might sign with another team or get a first-round pick in return.
