Reports: Saints Placing First-Round Tender on QB Taysom Hill

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Saints plan to place a first-round tender on restricted free agent quarterback, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Hill is set to enter restricted free agency on March 18. Once free agency officially begins, Hill will have the chance to re-sign with the Saints or sign an offer sheet with another franchise.

By placing a first-round tender on Hill, the Saints “will have a chance to match any offer sheet he signs with another team or get back a first-round pick.”

According to Schefter, “the Saints believe they’ll have a deal done with Taysom Hill before free agency.”

Despite the title of backup QB, New Orleans head coach Sean Payton found ways to utilize Hill’s talents on offense and special teams.

Hill only threw six passes during the season but ran the ball 27 times for 156 yards and a touchdown. He recorded 19 receptions for 234 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Before his NFL career began, Hill played quarterback at BYU from 2012-2016.

NFL free agency officially begins on March 18 at 2 p.m. (MDT).
