USU LB David Woodward Impresses In 40-Yard Dash, Bench Press At NFL Combine

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Utah State star linebacker David Woodward put up some good numbers during the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He performed well in the bench press and the 40-yard dash.

Woodward decided to forgo his senior season and enter the upcoming NFL Draft.

The NFL hands out prospect grades to each participant in the Combine that is based off of everything they do. The grading scale is from 5.0 to 8.0. An 8.0 grade is considered a perfect prospect. Woodward received a 5.60 grade which is considered “chance to make end of roster or practice squad.”

Here are Woodward’s measurements at the Combine.

  • Height: 6-2
  • Weight: 230 lbs.
  • Arms: 31 5/8″
  • Hands: 9 1/4″

40-Yard Dash

The former Aggie linebacker recorded a 4.79 time in the 40-yard dash. Among all of the linebackers, it was the 20th fastest time. He barely beat former Utah linebacker Francis Bernard who had a 4.81 time.

Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons had a ridiculous time of 4.39 to lead all linebackers.

Bench Press

Woodward put up 16 reps of 225 lbs. on the bench press. That result was tied for 10th in his position group with Penn State’s Cameron Brown and Daniel Bituli from Tennessee. Kansas linebacker Azur Kamara put up just 13 reps for the least amount in the group.

Michigan LB Khaleke Hudson had the most reps among the linebackers with 30.

Vertical Jump

The Aggies’ star backer jumped 33.5 inches in the vertical jump. That score was tied for ninth in the Combine with Michigan State’s Joe Bachie. Azur had the lowest score of 28 inches.

Montana linebacker Dante Olson had the highest vertical leap of 42 inches.

Broad Jump

Woodward posted a 114 inch broad jump at the Combine. It’s the third lowest result in the group but was just ahead of Wake Forest LB Justin Strnad (113) and Arkansas’ Scoota Harris (111).

Willie Gay Jr. from Mississippi State had the longest jump of 136 inches.

Three-Cone Drill

In the three-cone drill, Woodward finished the drill in 7.34 seconds. That result was better than three competitors who all had the same time of 7.38 including Scoota Harris, LSU’s Jacob Phillips and Chapelle Russell from Temple.

Malik Harrison from Ohio State had the quickest time of 6.83.

20-Yard Shuttle

During the 20-yard shuttle, Woodward ended the drill in 4.37 seconds. Three competitors had slower times than Woodward including Chapelle Russell (4.41), Azur Kamara (4.46) and Justin Strnad (4.49).

Cale Garrett from Missouri had the fastest time of 4.13.
