INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Utah Utes cornerback Jaylon Johnson showed first round potential after the numbers he posted during the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine.

Entering the Combine, it was reported that Johnson would compete in all of the drills in Indianapolis with a torn labrum. Before the Combine, Johnson was projected as a early second or late first round draft pick. According to NFL Network Draft Analyst Daniel Jeremiah, the former Ute is the 28th best prospect on his draft board.

The NFL hands out prospect grades to each participant in the Combine that is based off of everything they do. The grading scale is from 5.0 to 8.0. An 8.0 grade is considered a perfect prospect. Johnson received a 6.43 grade which is below “boom or bust prospect” and above “will be starter within first two seasons.”

NFL.com Draft Analyst Lance Zierlein compared Johnson to Seattle Seahawks DB Shaquill Griffin.

Here are the measurements from Johnson at the Combine.

  • Height: 6-0
  • Weight: 193 lbs.
  • Arms: 31 3/8″

Tulsa DB Reggie Robinson II and Georgia Southern Kindle Vildor had the most reps in the group with 22.

Vertical Jump

Johnson jumped 36.5 inches in the vertical jump. That was the fifth highest leap at the Combine with the defensive backs. Harrison Hand from Temple (41), Ohio State’s Jeff Okudah (41), Essang Bassey from Wake Forest (39.5), Kindle Vildor (39.5), Jeff Gladney from TCU (37.5), Florida’s C.J.
