LOGAN, Utah – New Utah State offensive coordinator Bodie Reeder said he joined the Aggies’ football staff because of Gary Andersen and USU’s “great tradition” and “great history of success.”

Andersen named Reeder as the Aggies’ offensive coordinator on Wednesday, January 15. He was introduced as the new OC during a press conference on Thursday, January 16.

During his introductory presser, Reeder talked about what appealed to him in taking the offensive coordinator position at Utah State.

“Coach Andersen and this program have a great tradition and a great history of success. Talking to people in the profession, there’s not a better guy to work for. I’ve had some connections on staff, guys that I knew prior, and I knew it was a great group of guys to come in and blend with,” said Reeder. “Outside looking in, a program like this is tough, and they work hard and earn every inch that they get, and that’s the type of program that I want to be a part of.”

Reeder replaced Mike Sanford Jr. who served as the Aggies’ OC during the 2019 season. Sanford Jr. took the same position with the Minnesota football program in December 2019.

Andersen pegged Reeder as the man to help Utah State improve on a 2019 season that ended with a 7-6 record and the No. 44 ranked offense in the FBS.

Last season, Reeder led North Texas’ offense to 418.6 yards per game which ranked No. 54 in the country.

Reeder said he hopes to build upon the offensive success the Aggies produced last year.

“First of all, we want to take advantage of the guys that we have in the room. We want to play to the strengths of our offense,” said Reeder.

Reeder continued by describing what type of offense he intends to run with the Aggies.

“We’re going to have multiple tempos and multiple personnel, and make sure that we’re getting the ball to our playmakers in space and in the correct fashion that they need to get it,” said Reeder. “I don’t believe in a book or a video type of system of an offense, we’re going to make sure that we have multiple, and we’re going to make sure that we have different schemes that can attack the defense from sideline to sideline and vertically down the field. We’re going to have a couple different run schemes that we can run the ball inside in our zone schemes and outside in our zone schemes and take advantage of gap runs. I think if you had to describe it, it would be a multiple-pace, multiple-personnel offense.”

Utah State kicks off the 2020 season on Saturday, September 5 when they host the Washington State Cougars. Washington State comes to Logan with a new head coach in Nick Rolovich who was hired this offseason after Mike Leach left Pullman to take over Mississippi State’s program.
