Gobert Anchors Jazz Defense With Five Blocks In Blowout Victory Over Charlotte

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah center Rudy Gobert held down the fort on defense with five blocked shots and led the Jazz to a blowout victory over the Charlotte Hornets for the team’s eighth consecutive victory.
Gobert and the Jazz dominated the Hornets from the jump and took the game with a final score of 109-92 at Vivint Smart Home Arena on Friday, January 10.
The Stifle Tower has been playing like an all-star this season and his elite play continued against the Hornets. Gobert recorded five blocks against the Hornets including four in the first half.

Gobert finished the game with his 27th double-double of the season.
He scored 15 points and pulled down 13 rebounds over the Hornets.

The Jazzman shot 6-10 on field goals including a few dunks that got Utah’s offense going early in the game. Gobert recorded 2 offensive rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.
He posted a team-high plus-minus rating of +25 in the win.

Gobert and the Jazz limited the Hornets to 13 points in the first quarter and forced them into a hole that they were unable to climb out of.
The Hornets struggled against the Jazz’s defense and shot 46.7 percent from the field including 30.8 percent from downtown.

Utah won the first three quarters and went up by 33 points during the second half. Quin Snyder was able to rotate in some bench players like Juwan Morgan who scored his first points as an NBA player during the fourth quarter.
Terry Rozier led the Hornets with 23 points.
Sharing The Scoring
Jazz star Donovan Mitchell only scored 4 points on the night but it didn’t really matter. Utah shared the ball and blasted the Hornets without having a starter scoring more than 16 points.
The Jazz dished out 28 assists in the win. Each starter had 3 or more assists. Jordan Clarkson led the team with 6 assists on the night.
Clarkson also led the second-unit with a team-high 20 points on 8-15 shooting. The Jazz guard added 3 rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes.

Utah forward Joe Ingles buried three shots from behind the arc including his 750th as a Jazzman.
He finished the game with 11 points.

Bojan Bogdanovic poured in 16 points and made four three-pointers.
Backup forward Georges Niang has been on fire from behind the arc since he entered the Snyder’s regular rotation in late December 2019. Niang made five triples for 15 points against the Hornets.

Emmanuel Mudiay was the last Jazzman to hit double figures with 10 points in 28 minutes on the floor.
The Jazz finished the game shooting 50.6 percent overall. They made 18 triples on 42.9 percent shooting against the Hornets.
Utah ranks No. 1 in the NBA in three-point shooting.

Utah improved to 26-12 on the season and 15-3 at home with its eighth straight victory. They own the longest winning streak in the NBA.

The Jazz haven’t dropped a game since before Christmas 2019 and have won 13 of their last 14 games.
Utah moved up in the Western Conference standings to No. 3. They are 0.5 games behind the Denver Nuggets for second in the West and 4.5 games back from the first-place Los Angeles Lakers.

Charlotte fell to 15-26 with the season series sweeping loss to Utah.
