SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz begin a three-game road trip looking for their ninth consecutive victory against the Washington Wizards, a team they’ve defeated seven times in a row.

Utah landed in the nation’s capital a day after defeating the Charlotte Hornets for their eighth straight win and 13th in the last 14 games. The Jazz look to continue another winning streak by beating the Wizards for the eighth consecutive time when the two teams play on Sunday, January 12.

The Jazz haven’t lost to the Wizards since 2016. Since dropping the first game of the 2015-16 season series, the Jazz have won seven straight over the Wizards including sweeps each of the last three seasons.

Last Loss

Washington last defeated Utah on February 18, 2016. The game was originally scheduled to take place on January 23 but was postponed due to a blizzard in the D.C. area and was rescheduled for February.

The Wizards beat the Jazz 103-89 at Capital One Arena. Only two members of the Jazz that played in that game are on the 2019-20 roster.

Jazz center Rudy Gobert posted a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds in 30 minutes that night. Forward Joe Ingles played 15 minutes coming off of the bench. Ingles scored 2 points.

Former Jazzman Gordon Hayward led Utah with 19 points in the loss.

Then Washington center Marcin Gortat led the Wizards with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Wizards guard John Wall scored 17 points while Bradley Beal came off the bench to add 16 points.

Winning Ways

Utah arrived in Washington D.C. with an eight-game winning streak. The Jazz haven’t lost since before Christmas 2019.

During the winning streak, the Jazz are outscoring their opponents by an average score of 115.13-102.38.

Utah’s stars have been on display since early December 2019 led by Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, and improved bench play.

Mitchell has led the team in scoring and assists in four of the last eight victories.

Gobert has led the team in rebounds in seven of the eight games. He’s also recorded six double-doubles during that stretch.

Since trading for sixth man Jordan Clarkson, the Jazz are undefeated.

The Jazz and Wizards play on Sunday, January 12 at 1:30 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on NBA League Pass, AT&T SportsNet, and 97.5 FM.
