Urban Meyer: 2004 Was As Enjoyable As I Have Ever Had In My Career

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – After spending time with both Utah State and Utah’s football programs, former Utes head coach Urban Meyer revealed his most enjoyable season as a college football coach on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd on FS1.
Host Doug Gottlieb was filling in for Cowherd, who asked Meyer what season was the most enjoyable among his success at Utah, Florida and Ohio State, which included three national championships. Meyer was very complimentary.
“I was just back at Utah and saw Kyle Whittingham and some of my old players,” Meyer said. “I told the team that when I look back at what we did as a non-BCS school and that 2004 season was as enjoyable as I have ever had. We didn’t win a national championship, but I still believe to this day that team can beat any team on any given day. Our closest game was 21 points.”

In his two seasons with the Utes, Meyer held a 22-2 record and a 13-1 record in conference play, which included an undefeated season in 2004 and the first time that a non-BCS school won a BCS Bowl Game.
“I’m not sure it’s fair to say which year was better than the others, but as far as pure enjoyment with minimal expectations, to do what we did with those players and Alex Smith as our quarterback,” Meyer mentioned. “To go undefeated and go to a BCS Bowl Game, that’s as good of a year as we have ever had.”
