PROVO, Utah – Beau Hoge’s days as a BYU football player are now over.  Hoge’s father, former NFL player Merril Hoge said to KSL Sports that Beau has retired from the game of football.

“Beau has moved on (from football) with his life’s work,” said Merril Hoge.

The former Fort Thomas, Kentucky native signed with BYU as part of the 2015 recruiting class.  Hoge played at quarterback and running back in his four years in Provo.

Hoge was sidelined during spring practices this past March due to an undisclosed injury. Back in June, Hoge’s cousin BYU offensive lineman Tristen Hoge said that Beau was planning on medically redshirting this fall and then working his way back for the 2020 football season.

Now that’s not the case as Hoge is retiring from football and he will now pursue his MBA at BYU.

MORE BYU Football

In 2017, Hoge started in two games for BYU.  His first start came against No. 7 Wisconsin and then in the following week, Hoge started on the road against Utah State and it ended up being his last game seeing snaps in a game at quarterback for the Cougars.

Hoge suffered a concussion injury in that game and an ankle injury that sidelined him for the remainder of that season.

Last year, Hoge was switched from quarterback to running back and he appeared in three games a season ago.
