SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with a heartbreaking 117-114 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

Thanks to a pair of high-energy dunks by Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, the Jazz were able to comeback from what was an 11-point Hawks lead to take a 9-point lead themselves going into the fourth quarter.

Mitchell scored 12 of his 34 points in the third alone to help Utah take a sizable lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Hawks found new life on the strength of eight fourth-quarter points by prized rookie Trae Young. He gave Jazz guard Ricky Rubio fits as Rubio has outscored by 11 points when he was on the floor for Utah.

Coming down the stretch, the Hawks overtook the Jazz and grabbed a 117-113 lead with less than 10 seconds to go.

Jazz forward Kyle was fouled on a 2-point attempt and was sent to the line for foul shots. After missing the second of his free throw attempts, Mitchell burst into the paint and grabbed an improbable offensive rebound. He deftly dribbled to the corner to attempt a game-tying 3-pointer but missed, giving Atlanta just its 25th win of the season.

With the loss, the Jazz moved to 42-30 and into a three-way tie for fifth place in the Western Conference playoff race.

Next Up

The Jazz will continue their road trip by traveling to face the Chicago Bulls on Saturday at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet.
