SLC Stars’ Willie Reed Out For Season, Waived By Team

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Salt Lake City Stars were dealt a major blow with a season-ending injury to center Willie Reed.
The team selected Reed with the first overall pick in the 2018 NBA G League Draft prior to the season and Reed had been playing exceptionally well for the team during the year.

In 21 starts, Reed was averaging a double-double with 20.1 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. He suffered his injury in the fourth quarter of the Stars’ last game against Westchester, but still made it out to sign postgame autographs for fans afterwards.

Due to his injury, Reed was waived by the team. In a related move, Kyle Benjamin was signed from the available player pool.
Reed had been with the Stars in an attempt to revitalize his career. He had appeared in 152 career NBA games with the Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers and Detroit Pistons with an average of 4.9 points per game.
