LOGAN, Utah – Following a single season at Utah State, Aggie running back Darwin Thompson has decided to give it a go in the NFL.

“I have spent a lot of time weighing all options for my future, receiving advice from my family and coaches throughout the process,” said Thompson. “I have come to the decision to leave school and enter the 2019 NFL Draft. Your support has meant everything to me and I’m excited to represent all my Aggies at the next level!”

In his one year at Utah State, under former head coach Matt Wells, Thompson thrived with 1,044 yards and 14 touchdowns on 153 carries. He led the Aggies in all three of those categories. He also added 23 receptions for two touchdowns when catching the ball.

As a team, the Aggies had one of the best seasons in school history with an 11-2 final record and a victory in the New Mexico Bowl over North Texas.

“In these situations, we have and always will work to educate the young men and provide them with accurate information,” said newly hired head coach Gary Andersen. “Darwin and his family believe moving on is best for him and his future. We will support Darwin in his quest to play in the NFL and wish him all the best moving forward.”

Thompson arrived at Utah State following his junior college days at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, where he earned second-team All-America honors in his sophomore season.

His uncle, David Thompson, played two years in the NFL for the St. Louis Rams from 1997 to 1999.
