Bountiful Completes Late Comeback Over Alta To Advance To 5A Championship

SALT LAKE CITY – The Bountiful Redhawks secured a come-from-behind victory over the Alta Hawks with a late touchdown in the 5A State Playoff Semifinals.

The two heroes for the Redhawks were Faletau Satuala and the defense. Satuala pulled in the game-winning touchdown and the defense suffocated Alta in the second half.

Bountiful will play Timpview in the 5A Championship game.

First Half

First Quarter

Bountiful started with the ball and was quickly forced to punt away.

The Hawks’ offense capitalized on the defensive stop and began putting together a scoring drive.

Alta got down to the goalline and pushed through the Bountiful line for the score.

The Redhawks next possession looked better.

They marched down the field with a methodical drive and moved the chains with ease.

The first quarter ended with a 7-0 lead for the Alta Hawks.

Second Quarter

Alta was faced with a 4th & 1 to start the second and they converted to move into the red zone.

Siaki Fekitoa led the Bountiful offense down the field and eventually got into the end zone to tie the game at 7.

The Alta offense began moving down the field with quick-hit screen plays and deep passes.

In just three plays, the Hawks found themselves in the red zone.

Tight end Slade Taylor caught a touchdown pass to cap off the drive and give Alta the lead right back.

The extra point attempt was blocked to leave the score at 13-7.

Fekitoa continued to have a big impact as he broke off a big run play to set the Redhawks up inside the 10-yard line.

Bountiful threw a goalline interception, erasing any chance at taking the lead on that possession.

The Redhawks were able to get a stop and respond quickly.

Britton Tidwell maneuvered through the defense on a screen play and took it to the house.

Alta was unable to get in scoring position before the conclusion of the first half.

An extra point was the difference as Bountiful led Alta by one, 14-13, going into the break.

Second Half

Third Quarter

The Hawks started with the ball after halftime and looked to score and take the lead.

Alta made it to the red zone where they took a shot on 3rd & long but the Bountiful defense held strong.

The Hawks settled for a field goal and put it through the middle for a 16-14 lead.

Bountiful went three-and-out and was forced to punt. Alta blocked the punt and dove on the ball to start their drive just outside the 20-yard line.

Once again, the Redhawks defense stepped up in the red zone and forced a field goal.

The kick bounced off the upright and went through to give Alta a five-point lead, 19-14.

Bountiful would start the final quarter down one score with the ball.

Fourth Quarter

Both sides would go three-and-out on their first drive in the final quarter.

Bountiful got the ball back with eight minutes left.

The Redhawks broke off a big run that put them in the red zone but a penalty took them all the way back to their side of the field.

The setback took all of the wind out of Bountiful’s sails. They punted back to Alta with three minutes left.

The Redhawks defense continued to step up. They got the ball back to offense after less than a minute on the field.

Bountiful made its way down the field very quickly. They sat at 1st & goal with just under two minutes left.

The Redhawks took the lead with a minute left off of a jump ball that was pulled down by Faletau Satuala.

The two-point conversion was unsuccessful.

Alta had one minute to drive down the field and score with a touchdown or a field goal.

Bountiful’s defense continued its momentum and stopped the Hawks for the win.

The Redhawks advance to the 5A Championship game with a 20-19 win over the Alta Hawks.
