SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU Cougars and current Detroit Lions running back Jamaal Williams was reportedly fined for his celebration during Week 18’s Sunday Ticket Football.
The Green Bay Packers hosted Williams and the Lions for a regular season finale at Lambeau Field on Sunday, January 8.
The former BYU star led the Lions to a 20-16 win over the Packers.
Williams finished the game with 16 carries for 72 yards and two touchdowns. The running back, who is known for his happy-go-lucky personality, celebrated his scores with dances in the end zone.
Six days later, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Williams had been fined for his touchdown dances.
“The NFL fined #Lions RB Jamaal Williams $18,566 again for excessive sexiness – excuse me, unsportsmanlike conduct – as a result of his hip-swiveling TD dances in last Sunday night’s win over the #Packers. No flags were thrown,” the NFL insider tweeted.

It’s not the first time this season that Williams has been fined for his scoring celebrations. In October 2022, the former BYU standout was fined after celebrating touchdowns in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Williams had a standout performance in Week 18. He passed the legendary Barry Sanders to become Detroit’s single-season touchdown record holder.

In addition to his Lions record, the sixth-year running back reached 1,000 rushing yards for the season on a run during the first half.
It’s the first time during his NFL career that Williams has joined the 1,000-yard rushing club. Earlier in the day, former BYU running back Tyler Allgeier became the first former Cougar to hit the mark. Williams joined Allgeier a few hours later.

With the win, the Lions ended their season with a 9-8 record and eliminated their division rival from playoff contention.
Williams finished his 2022 campaign with 262 carries for 1,066 yards and 17 touchdowns.
