SALT LAKE CITY – Sergio Córdova showed incredible patience with a second-effort first half goal for an RSL team struggling on the road.
Seattle hosted RSL at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington on Sunday, August 14.
In the 32nd minute Jefferson Savarino dumped a pass in as Sergio Córdova found himself behind the Seattle defense.

Córdova danced through, around and past a pair of Seattle defenders before focusing his attention on the approaching goalkeeper. Stefan Frei dove to his right, stopping the first shot.
Córdova recovered and faked out another defender before finding the back of the net with a left footed blast to put Real in front 1-0 in a vital Western Conference fixture.
Savarino and Córdova are tied atop RSL’s goal scoring leaderboard this season with five apiece.
Real Salt Lake has found life since the 30-minute mark after a disjointed effort early. They currently lead 1-0 in the 44th minute.
Sergio Córdova proving his haters wrong, again. His athleticism warrants his minutes whether certain #RSL fans want to admit it and that run (what a ball by Sava btw) proves exactly that.

Bad Blood?
Last season RSL unexpectedly eliminated Seattle from the playoffs in a penalty shootout in the opening round of the MLS playoffs. This was preceded by Freddy Juarez jumping ship as RSL manager to accept an assistant coaching opportunity in Seattle.
Then, 2021 RSL captain Albert Rusnák joined the Sounders in free agency after failing to come to terms with RSL. Kelyn Rowe, who spent the 2019 season with RSL, also now calls Seattle home.
Recently, Real Salt Lake has conceded multiple goals following lapses in concentration, much to the frustration of the team. Communication has been a big focus this week throughout training sessions as RSL attempts to combat a run of disappointing results.
Earlier this season, Real Salt Lake beat Seattle 1-0 following a Bobby Wood 46th-minute goal to pick up all three points. This weekend will act as a chance for Seattle to get its revenge and even the slate against RSL in 2022.
