Williams, who is in his first season with the Colts, was targeted in the passing game by Indianapolis backup Nick Foles in the second quarter against the Buffalo Bills.
Foles, a former Super Bowl-winning quarterback with the Eagles, found Williams wide open, and Williams scampered into the endzone for an easy 15-yard touchdown grab.
It was the Colts’ first touchdown of the preseason.
The late second-quarter score gave the Colts a 10-7 lead at the halftime break over the AFC favorite Bills.
Williams finished the afternoon with five carries for 10 yards and the one pass target that resulted in a receiving touchdown.
Ty’Son Williams competing for time on the Colts depth chart
The former BYU and South Carolina Gamecock had the equal number of carries as Philip Lindsay. He appears to be Williams’ primary competition for the RB3 spot on the Colts’ depth chart.
Lindsay rushed for 24 yards on his five carries.
Williams ended up with the Colts after the Ravens withdrew their exclusive rights tender to him. That opened the door for Williams to sign with Indianapolis.
Last season, Williams was Baltimore’s week one running back starter after a slew of injuries hit the Ravens’ running back room. He finished the 2021 season with 35 carries for 185 yards, a touchdown, and nine receptions for 84 yards.
The Bills defeated the Colts, 27-24. Indianapolis is now 0-1 in the preseason. Williams and the Colts will return to action next Saturday, August 20, when they host another BYU running back, Jamaal Williams, and the Detroit Lions.
