SALT LAKE CITY – We’re witnessing Jamaal Williams rise to stardom in the NFL.
With HBO’s Hard Knocks covering the Detroit Lions during training camp, the former BYU great appears to be a favorite for the camera. In large part because of moments such as his speech to teammates.
Many think of Williams as the happy, go-lucky guy, but he also has a ton of passion for the game of football. HBO’s cameras captured Williams giving an impassioned speech to his Lions teammates.
“Last year wasn’t it…we can make it!”

“I wanna let y’all know, man. Today is the minimum of effort. Do not give up. Do not feel like you tired. When you tired, think of last year and think of that [expletive] record. Every time I get tired or when I think I can’t go anymore, I think of that [expletive] record!”
Last season, the Lions finished 3-13-1. They haven’t been to the Playoffs since the 2016 season.
Williams continued, “Last year wasn’t it! That ain’t us! We can make it! Have some heart! I get emotional about this I’m about to cry because I care about y’all. Do your best! Let’s go! Lions on three. 1-2-3, Lions!”
There’s no shortage of passion from Williams. The man loves football.
Last season, in his first year in Detroit after coming over from NFC North rival Green Bay, Williams rushed for 601 yards and three touchdowns.
