Tony Finau The Highest Ranked Golfer In 3M Open Field

SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau enters the 3M open this week with the expectation of winning the tournament given that he is one of the highest-ranked golfers in the field.
Finau is currently ranked 17th in the Official World Golf Rankings. The number one ranked golfer in the field is the 2021 Masters Champion Hideki Matsuyama who is currently ranked as the 14th best player in the world, just three places higher than Finau.
Last year’s champion and good friend of Finau, Cameron Champ, is also in the field as he attempts to defend his title.
Furthermore, Finau has historically played well at the 3M Open, held annually at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota. In 2021 he concluded in a share of 28th, 2020 was his best finish yet as he ended tied for 3rd, and in 2019 he debuted at the tournament with a share of 23rd.
Finau Vs. Matsuyama
Matsuyama, on the other hand, has only played in the tournament on one occasion. In 2019, he ended in a share of 7th and 5 shots behind eventual champion Mathew Wolff.
Finau enters the tournament with a very impressive final round at St. Andrews in the 150th Open Championship when he posted a six-under-par score of 66 to end in a tie for 28th at the final major of the year.

Finau will be hoping to add to his two previous PGA Tour victories and the 3M tournament will provide a perfect platform for Finau to do so. The golf course plays to Finau’s strengths and he has previously played well at the venue. With the distraction of the LIV Tour taking multiple PGA Tour professionals who would otherwise be present in Minnesota this weekend, the current strength of PGA Tour fields is not nearly as competitive as it once was.
Tony Finau Tee Times
Finau will play alongside Jason Day and Davis Riley and will tee off the 1st tee on Thursday at 10:33 a.m. and off the 10th tee on Friday at 5:23 a.m.
