Beehive Bowl: Weber State, SUU Announce Six-Game Football Series

SALT LAKE CITY – The Weber State Wildcats and Southern Utah Thunderbirds announced a future six-game football series to continue the Beehive Bowl matchup.
The programs announced the series on Thursday, June 16.
Weber State and SUU announced six football contests will be played between the Wildcats and Thunderbirds from 2026-31.
The two in-state rivals have played each other as members of the Big Sky Conference in every season since 2012. Southern Utah is leaving for the Western Athletic Conference on July 1.
Due to SUU’s departure for the WAC and Weber State remaining in the Big Sky, the Thunderbirds and Wildcats won’t play each other for the next four seasons.
The Beehive Bowl will continue!

Six-game football series between Weber State and Southern Utah
- September 5, 2026 – @ Southern Utah
- September 18, 2027 – @ Weber State
- September 16, 2028 – @ Southern Utah
- September 8, 2029 – @ Weber State
- September 7, 2030 – @ Southern Utah
- September 6, 2031 – @ Weber State

The Wildcats and Thunderbirds have played each other in football 29 times in history. Weber State owns a 21-8 all-time series lead. As members of the Big Sky, the Wildcats own a 7-4 series lead. The last rivalry victory by the Thunderbirds was in 2017.
Last season, the Wildcats finished with a 6-5 record, including 5-3 in conference games. Weber State placed fifth in the Big Sky in 2021.
Southern Utah finished the 2021 season with a 1-10 record, including 0-8 in Big Sky contests. The Thunderbirds’ only win came in the third game of the season. SUU ended the year with a 62-0 loss at Weber State. The T-Birds finished in 13th place in the Big Sky standings.
Weber State opens its 2022 schedule at home against the Western Oregon Wolves on Thursday, September 1.
Southern Utah’s 2022 slate begins at home against St. Thomas-Minnesota on Thursday, September 1. The Thunderbirds will open their season under first-year head coach DeLane Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald was hired by SUU in December 2021. He was previously the head coach at Frostburg State University.
