Joe Ingles Eats At Sandwich Place Gordon Hayward Got Sick From

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah Jazz and current Portland Trail Blazers forward Joe Ingles said he finally ate at the sandwich place that former Jazzman Gordon Hayward got sick from during the 2017 NBA Playoffs.
On May 28, Ingles tweeted that after years of not wanting to eat at “the sandwich place” he finally did it. Although a member of the Blazers, Ingles and his family still reside in Utah.
“I just ate from the sandwich place that @gordonhayward got sick from in the playoffs against the Clippers. I’ve literally never wanted to eat there after that day,” Ingles tweeted. “8 years here and I did it.”

Sandwich Shop Sickness
In April 2017, Ingles, Hayward, and the Jazz were in the midst of a first-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Prior to Game 4 of the best-of-seven games series, Hayward, now a member of the Charlotte Hornets, got food poisoning from a local sandwich shop that he didn’t call out by name.
According to NBA.com, Hayward “battled the effects of the illness all day Sunday and received fluids in the hours leading up until tip-off. He didn’t participate in the pre-game warmups and was noticeably on the bench while his teammates loosened up.”
The forward started the game but had to leave the contest in the second quarter due to the illness.

Despite Hayward’s early departure, the Jazz won Game 4.
“I was definitely down for the count. I hadn’t been that sick in years,” Hayward said after the game.
He was asked if he’d go to the sandwich place again.
“Absolutely not,” Hayward responded.
Ingles, Hayward, and the Jazz defeated the Clippers in seven games to advance to the second round.
Hayward is under contract with the Hornets through the 2023-24 season. Ingles is set to become an unrestricted free agent in July.
