SALT LAKE CITY – Brigham Young University announced that it is removing its requirement for individuals to have proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result to attend indoor public events on campus.
BYU announced the decision on Friday, February 18.
In early January, BYU announced the decision to required proof of vaccination or a negative test result in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease.
The university said that it won’t require proof of vaccination or test results effective immediately.
BYU said that it is still requiring masks to be worn in classes and indoor spaces if physical distancing isn’t maintained. That requirement is “regardless of vaccination status.”
The school added that people experiencing symptoms of illness should not attend events on campus.
Effective immediately, BYU is removing the requirement to present proof of vaccination/negative test to access large, indoor public events on campus.
Masks are still required in classes & indoor spaces where physical distancing isn’t maintained.

The university said that “there may be specific events where a guest artist or performing group requires proof of vaccination as a condition of their performance. BYU will honor those contractual agreements as established.”
BYU also said that it is “closely monitoring COVID-19 conditions on a local and national level and will continue to adjust safety protocols as necessary.”
