SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau blew up on the South Course of Torrey Pines in the second round of the Farmers Insurance Open resulting in a missed cut.
Finau began the second round at five-under-par, just four shots behind the first-round leader, but a five-over-par second round dropped him to even par and a tie for 111th.
The round consisted of six bogeys with the first falling on the par 4 2nd. The only birdie on the day came on the ninth when his third shot from the middle of the fairway splashed within 7 feet of the cup for a reasonably simple birdie putt.

Ultimately, it was a horrific day for Finau who had previously enjoyed many low rounds at Torrey Pines. The past two Farmers Insurance Open’s Finau has finished in a T2 and T6. While in 2018, Finau finished in a T13.
The missed cut marks the second occasion through seven tournaments in the 2021-22 PGA Tour season in which Finau has failed to qualify for the weekend. The first occurred in November of 2021 at the Houston Open.
Finau will likely next tee it up at the Waste Management Phoenix Open starting on February 13.
