PROVO, Utah – After 12 years, BYU football pulled off a victory over rival Utah. The Utes had a nine-game winning streak over BYU and Utah’s last victory over the Cougars came in 2019 with a now-infamous quote.

Former Utah star, now Baltimore Ravens QB Tyler Huntley said, “they so poo-poo” about BYU after the Utes defeated the Cougars 30-12.

Fast forward to Saturday night, BYU football took down No. 21 ranked Utah 26-17 to secure their first victory over the Utes since 2009. After the dust settled on a storming the field, players found their way into the locker room. BYU star wide receiver Neil Pau’u couldn’t help but take a trip down memory lane.

Pau’u tweeted, “They so ‘poo poo’ lol #StreakOver.”

At the time in 2019, BYU players and coaches just brushed off Huntley’s comments. But, clearly, it had a lasting impact on BYU players over the past two years.

Pau’u, who played in his third rivalry matchup against Utah, finished the game with three catches for 19 yards and one touchdown.

With the victory, BYU can now claim bragging rights over Utah until 2024. The next time BYU faces the Utes on the gridiron will be a member of the Big 12 Conference in 2024.

BYU moves to 2-0 in 2021 and will next be in action against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday, September 18, at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
