SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU star Kai Nacua reminded everyone of the type of playmaker he is during a San Francisco 49ers preseason game.

Nacua was credited with a sack during San Francisco’s 15-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in week two preseason action.

In the fourth quarter of the game, the play took place with 11:45 remaining on a 2nd & 13 play for the Chargers. San Francisco dialed up a blitz for Nacua and he made the most of the play call.

Kai Nacua sack against the Los Angeles Chargers

Nacua flew into the Chargers backfield untouched and sacked veteran quarterback Chase Daniel for a loss of 18 yards.

The sack was Nacua’s first of his NFL career. In fact, this might be the first sack of Nacua’s football career. At BYU, Nacua never recorded a sack during his four years with the Cougars.

As a high school standout at Liberty High School in Nevada, Nacua primarily played quarterback and dabbled in some safety snaps.

Nacua career snapshot

This is Nacua’s fifth year in the NFL. The older brother to current BYU receivers Puka and Samson Nacua started three games his rookie year with the Cleveland Browns then didn’t see any regular-season action until last year with the 49ers, where he appeared in five games.

This past off-season, Nacua signed a one-year contract extension with San Francisco. Nacua has recorded eight tackles, one sack, and one pass deflection through two weeks in preseason play.

Nacua and the 49ers conclude their preseason schedule next week when they host the Las Vegas Raiders on August 29 at 2 p.m. on NFL Network.
