BYU Football Will Wear Royal Rush Uniforms For Arizona Game

PROVO, Utah – When BYU football takes the field against the Arizona Wildcats in Las Vegas, they’ll be donning one of the 26 new uniform combinations they have in their uniform closet.

BYU will wear its “Royal Rush” uniforms versus Arizona on September 4th.

It’s the first time since 1968 that BYU will wear a royal blue helmet. Dating back to 1969, the Cougars have primarily worn a white helmet with a blue oval Y. From 1999-2004, BYU wore a navy blue helmet.

The shade of royal used in this new royal blue helmet is the same shade from the previous royal blue helmets in the 1960s.

Players on the BYU football program were the ones who selected the royal rush look for the Arizona game. In fact, according to wide receiver Gunner Romney in an interview with KSL Sports, the players have selected 12 different uniform combinations for all of BYU’s regular-season games during the 2021 season.

BYU’s Billy Nixon, the new Director of Player Experience and Equipment Operations, has been a key piece in the Cougars’ efforts in uniform swag. Last year, BYU rolled out “The Giff” facemask, which became a hit among fans and drew in national attention being placed on the set at ESPN’s College Gameday.

BYU and Arizona will kick off at 8:30 p.m. on September 4th. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN and can be heard on KSL NewsRadio, your legacy home of the BYU Cougars.
